The DPI (Department of Public Instruction) is the starting block to getting your license. They provide a plethora of online resources such as classroom management courses, slides and many different types of licenses. Through the DPI you will be able to apply for and check the status of your substitute license.

The first step is to determine which license you are qualified for and interested in by looking through the requirements below.

Requirements for 3 Year Short Term Substitute License

Must be 18 or over to apply.

Have an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

And have completed the substitute training program such as CESA or STEDI. (STEDI is recommended)

The alternative requirements are the following.

Are at least 20 years of age.

Enrolled in an educator preparation program, approved by the state superintendent that awards a bachelor’s degree.

Has successfully completed a minimum number of credits to have achieved junior status.

And, has completed 15 hours of classroom observation.

 

Special Education Program Aide License requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Have completed a high school and graduated with a diploma.

Must have a request form by an employing district administrator.  

This form is also known as a PI-1622 Aide Request which you would receive from a Fidelis Manager.

 

These instructions do not apply to you if you already have an Educator License, Provisional License, License with Stipulations or Lifetime License in the state of Wisconsin.
